As political and economic issues become increasingly international in scope, there is a growing need for Americans to be proficient in world languages.

The Portuguese minor allows students to pursue a range of interests in the language and cultures of Portugal and emphasizes the acquisition of the Portuguese language.

How to Declare

Students must complete the transcript-recognized Portuguese minor application at the latest by the 12th class day of their expected graduation semester or summer session. In order to apply for the transcript-recognized Portuguese minor, please visit the Spanish and Portuguese Advising Office at BEN 2.108 to speak with an advisor.

Required Courses

The Transcript-Recognized Portuguese Minor requires students to take 18 hours through the Spanish and Portuguese Department at UT Austin or an accredited institution with the Study Abroad Office. At least nine hours should be categorized as in-residence.
