The Landscape Studies minor introduces environmental and cultural issues concerning the design, planning and management of the built environment. It specifically targets undergraduates who desire exposure to how designed change impacts the places in which we live.

The Landscape Studies Minor is designed to provide a foundation in landscape studies concepts for students outside of the School of Architecture.

How to Declare

Students who know they intend to complete the Landscape Studies minor should apply online at the earliest possible date.

Required Courses

To fulfill the Landscape Studies students must complete 15 semester hours of coursework (five courses).

  • Courses may be taken in any order, as long as prerequisites are met.
  • There are no courses that are required for the Landscape Studies minor; students may pick a collection of five courses that will count.
  • Six hours must be upper-division; all courses can be upper-division.
  • Some courses are only offered once per year.
  • Some courses may be restricted or waitlisted. Please send an email to soa-ug@austin.utexas.edu with your EID and the course name and unique if you need help getting on a waitlist.
  • At least half of the coursework must be completed in residence at The University of Texas at Austin.
  • All coursework must be taken on the letter-grade basis, and completed in conjunction with the students’ major requirements.
