Housed within a large and active school of architecture, the Architectural History program examines the history of building and design with a clear sense of the realities of making architecture and the way buildings change over time.

The architectural history minor is designed to provide a foundation in architectural history concepts for students outside of the School of Architecture.

How to Declare

Students who know they intend to complete the Architectural History minor should apply online at the earliest possible date.

Required Courses

To fulfill the Architectural History minor students must complete 15 semester hours of coursework (five courses).

  • Courses may be taken in any order, as long as prerequisites are met.
  • There are no courses that are required for the Architectural History minor; students may pick a collection of five courses that will count.
  • Six hours must be upper-division; all courses can be upper-division.
  • Some courses are only offered once per year.
  • Some courses may be restricted or waitlisted. Please send an email to soa-ug@austin.utexas.edu with your EID and the course name and unique if you need help getting on a waitlist.
  • At least half of the coursework must be completed in residence at The University of Texas at Austin.
  • All coursework must be taken on the letter-grade basis, and completed in conjunction with the students’ major requirements.
