Minor Accounting

The McCombs School Department of Accounting is renowned for its innovative teachers and world-renowned researchers, who infuse the curriculum with cutting-edge ideas.

The accounting program provides students with a broad overall education, solid grounding in the common body of knowledge of business administration, and exposure to accounting in sufficient depth to help them achieve entry-level competence for pursuit of a career in public accounting, government or industry. Accounting coursework covers: the collection, recording, summarizing and interpretation of financial data; the uses of accounting data by management; the uses of accounting procedures in all phases of financial matters; the uses of computers and other electronic means of handling accounting data.

Note: You must be a McCombs student to pursue this minor.

While a minor is not required as part of the BBA degree program, a student may choose to complete a minor in conjunction with their degree, in either a second business field or a field outside the school, which offers a minor and for which the student is eligible. A BBA student may complete only one minor, which must be in a different field of study from their major.

To fulfill a Minor for Business Majors, students must complete 15 semester hours of coursework. At least half of the coursework must be completed in residence at The University of Texas at Austin. All coursework must be taken on the letter-grade basis, and completed in conjunction with the students’ major requirements.
