Certificate in the College of Natural Sciences

The Pre-Health Professions Certificate provides an opportunity for students in any college to augment their UT experience with complimentary health-related courses while earning a transcripted certificate.

The certificate assists students in preparing for post-baccalaureate, healthcare professional programs.

How to Declare

The Pre-Health Professions Certificate is designed for every kind of UT Austin student, for majors in any college. If you have been admitted to the College of Natural Sciences, speak with your academic advisor anytime after New Student Orientation and tell them that you wish to pursue the Pre-Health Professions Certificate as part of your academic curriculum at UT Austin. Your academic advisor can then guide you on how to get started. An application for admission may be required. You can also review certificate requirements and procedures on the certificate website.

Non-science majors wishing to pursue a pre-health pathway must apply to the certificate program when they are currently enrolled in or upon completion of the following courses with grades of at least B-: Chemistry 301 and completion of one of the following: Statistics and Data Sciences 302, Mathematics 408C, 408K, or 408N. Requirements differ based on catalog so be sure to refer to the certificate website for your specific requirements.

Required Courses

College of Natural Sciences majors are required to complete a minimum of 9 hours of health-related theme coursework. A total of 18 hours of coursework is required. Learn more about the Science Major Track.

Students outside the the College of Natural Sciences must take eighteen hours of science coursework from their health profession prerequisite track in order to complete the certificate. Learn more about the Non-Science Major Track.
