Certificate Evidenceand Inquiry

The Evidence and Inquiry Certificate allows students to design an area of study shaped by questions that require evidence and methodologies outside their major.

It is limited to students in the Polymathic Scholars honors program in the College of Natural Sciences (CNS).

Declaration Requirements

Applications for current students is restricted to CNS majors who have completed at least one but not more than three semesters at UT-Austin or another post-secondary institution, and to those who have been admitted to Polymathic Scholars.

How to Declare

Current students with a major in the College of Natural Sciences must first apply to Polymathic Scholars.

Required Courses

The Evidence and Inquiry certificate requires twenty-two semester hours of coursework, eleven of which much be in residence. The following requirements must be met:

  • Signature course
  • Natural Sciences (NSC) 109, Topic 4
  • Four additional courses, including at least six semester hours of upper-division coursework, from the student's approved evidence and inquiry area of study
  • Senior Capstone Seminar sequence: Natural Sciences 323 and 371
